update on my mommy!

Wow. That's all. The past day and a half has been absolutely crazy. My mom was in a serious accident and rather than re-tell everything, I just copied my sisters update on Facebook so please feel free to read on about my mom and exactly what happened.

First and foremost, I need to thank you ALL for everything. Even though there's not much anyone can do, we have felt the love from you all and your prayers have been a HUGE source of comfort for not only us, but for her! All we can ask is that you keep praying.
Her condition right now is teetering between serious and stable, but leaning more on the stable side. She is in and out of consiousness, saying words that don't make much sense, but she recognizes us and will wear a smile if you joke around. She seems to be in good spirits. I'm sure the drugs might have a little something to do with that.

As for her injuries - let's start at the bottom: her knees are bothering her. They did x-rays and didn't see anything broken. She had some pretty large lacerations requiring some staples to hold it together. There may be some nerve damage. The dr.'s are still evaluating that. There's a chance that the damage could be permanent which would mean weakness on that leg. Her pelvis is broken and seperated from the hip-bone all the way to the end of the joint. It is pretty severe and will require surgery. They will place a plate on her hip and another in her back and screw those together. Those will probably become permanent fixtures for her. She has serious bruising on her arms and elbows. Her shoulder is broken and her shoulder blade is cracked. They will put a plate in that and screw it together as well. She's going to be iron woman before this is all over, right?! :)

She also has some orbital fractures on her face. The right side hit the pavement and her face is black/blue on that side. That can be fixed with plastic surgery which is least on the priority list at this point. If it does take place, it will most likely be sometime early next week. That is the extent of the injuries at this point. There are some cracks and things in her clavical, but for now, we are just trying to make her comfortable and keep the pain at bay. They are going to perform the surgery Friday and they will do her pelvis as well as her shoulder. We are all trying to be as postive as possible. The dr.'s are pretty confident that she'll make it and knowing her, she'll probably make a complete recovery and be up and at em in 6 months...! ha ha ha

As for what happened. She was riding her bike around the area of 11818 S. and 3770 West. She was heading east (i'm assuming she was headed home) and a full-size suburban was attempting to turn left. The suburban driver didn't see her as she was crossing the road and hit her from the side. Mom was flown onto the hood of the car and up into the winshield, and then was flown back about 30 feet onto the pavement. The woman driving didn't have her cell phone in the car so the neighbor heard all the commotion and called the paramedics, they came and took her to Riverton hospital where they had Life Flight waiting and they flew her to IMC in Murray. She's in ICU. I think the hospital has an email system where you can send notes. She can't have flowers or much of anything, so the best would be to send emails and we can read them to her..

Visitors are being limited to family only right now where she can only see 2 at a time. They are taking incredible care of her and being very protective of her which is nice to know. I'm amazed at the staff here. We couldn't ask for better! Keep her in your prayers! Thanks!
